UW-Superior
Yellowjacket forward Brian Lindblom (Jr.-Spooner/WI) scored 40 points against
WIAC opponents and is the WWS choice for WIAC men's basketball player of the
week.
UW-Superior is leaving the WIAC at the end of the 2014-15 academic year after
over 100 years in the conference, citing travel distances and costs as reasons
for joining the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC)
On Saturday (2/21) Lindblom dropped in 19 points facing visiting UW-Stevens
Point at 'the Mertz' in a tough 70-60 conference loss to the Pointers.
The 'Jackets enjoyed a 33-27 halftime advantage but a strong 2nd period by the
#17 ranked Pointers proved too much.
On-the-road at the Johnson Fieldhouse (2/18) the Yellowjacket forward paced the
field with a game-high 21 points in a 67-59 UW-Superior win over a struggling
0-14 UW-Stout team.
This season Lindblom has scored 310 points, ranked 10th in the WIAC. |
UW-Superior
Yellowjacket guard Sally Linzmeier (Sr.-Valders/WI) scored 40 points against
WIAC opponents this week and is the WWS choice for women's basketball player of
the week.
The Yellowjackets won their first conference championship on Saturday (2/21),
enjoying home-court advantage throughout the upcoming playoffs, including a 1st
round bye.
Linzmeier guided the team to a 67-58 win over UW-Stout on Wednesday (2/18)
pouring in a game-high 21 points, adding to her season total points (408) ranked
2nd in the conference.
On-the-road at Berg Gym on Saturday (2/21) against UW-Stevens Point, Sally paced
the field with a game-high 19 points, and had 5 assists, but the 'Jackets were
upended in the final seconds, falling 56-58 in a hard-fought game.
The loss didn't matter however because UW-Eau Claire upset UW-Oshkosh 64-61
giving the conference championship outright to UW-Superior.
This season Linzmeier surpassed the UW-Superior all-time points record (12/6)
previously held by #45 Sandy Eilertsen (1993-97) 1,300 points, whose number is
retired. |

'Hawk forward Steve Egan (Sr.-Omro/WI) scored 35 points facing WIAC opponents
and is the WWS choice for men's basketball player of the week.
Despite a 69-72 setback at Bennett Court against UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday
(2/11), the ' Hawks retain their #1 NCAA Central ranking, falling 1/2 game out
of the conference lead with 2 contests remaining on the slate.
Egan dropped in a team-high 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in the loss, which
snapped a 13 game 'Hawk win streak.
At Kachel Gym on Saturday (2/14)- facing visiting UW-River Falls - the 'Hawk
forward pulled down a game-high 9 rebounds, in a dominating 85-66 win over the
Falcons, adding to his season totals (126) ranked 8th in the conference.
UW-W went on a 26-0 2nd half run to put the game away after trailing 32-35 at
the break.
This year Egan is ranked 23rd in the WIAC in scoring (220 points) averaging 9.6
per contest. |
UW-Stevens Point
Pointer p/ Joann Wolfenburg #55 (Jr.-Adell/WI) scored 28 points on-the-road
against WIAC opponents and is the WWS choice for WIAC women's basketball player
of the week.
At Kachel Gym on Wednesday (2/11) -facing UW-Whitewater - the Pointers enjoyed a
slim 31-30 halftime advantage, but poor shooting in the 2nd half, saw the lead
evaporate, falling 52-64 to the 'Hawks.
Wolfenburg tied for the team-high in scoring - 10 points - also adding 4
rebounds to her season totals (132) ranked 14th in the conference.
At UW-Stout on Saturday (2/14) the Pointer post player racked up a game-high 18
points and grabbed 8 rebounds in a 68-64 UW-SP Valentines Day win over the
talented, yet struggling Blue Devils.
A road warrior, Wolfenburg scored a season-high 20 points at UW-EC (12/3) a
59-53 Pointer win. |

Point f/ Alex Richard (Sr.-Spring Green /WI) is the WWS choice for WIAC men's
basketball player of the week.
Alex had game-highs in points (17) and rebounds (9) at Bennett Court on
Wednesday (2/4) facing UW-River Falls, a 63-40 Pointer home-win over the
Falcons. A stiff Pointer defense limited the visiting 'Birds to just one player
finishing in double figures (10 points).
On-the-road at Bo Ryan Court on Saturday (2/7) against UW-Platteville Alex
was held to 8 points -(fouled out) - but it was enough to help the team win
their 12th conference game in a dominating 67-55 victory over the Pioneers.
This season Alex is 11th in the conference in scoring (290 points) averaging
13.4 points per game and 16th in rebounding (92) 4.2 per match. |
UW-EC Blugold forward
Teenie Lichtfuss (Jr.-Oshkosh/WI) scored 29 points facing WIAC opponents and is
the WWS choice for WIAC women's basketball player of the week.
After two road losses last week - UW-Stout (61-59) and UW-Stevens Point (56-43)
- the Blugolds have regrouped, recording a pair of wins at the Zorn Arena,
positioning themselves for post-season play with an 8-4 WIAC record.
On Wednesday (2/4) against UW-Superior Teenie paced the team with a 16 point
performance, helping the 'Golds to a 64-59 win over the 10-3 Yellowjackets.
On Saturday (2/7) against visiting UW-Whitewater, the Blugold guard dropped in
13 points in a 64-49 UW-EC thrashing of the usually competitive 'Hawks.
This season Teenie is 4th in the conference in scoring (277 points) averaging
13.2 points per game and #1 in free throw percentage (.917) converting 44-of-48
attempts. |

Warhawk g/ Quardell Young #10 (Sr.-Kenosha/WI) scored 47 points facing WIAC
opponents this week and is the WWS choice for WIAC men's basketball player of
the week.
On-the-road at Bo Ryan Court in a WIAC showdown with 6-4 UW-Platteville (1/28)
the 'Hawk guard paced the field with 26 points in a thrilling 65-64
UW-Whitewater win. Young scored the game-winning basket and blocked a last
second Pioneer scoring attempt to help record the teams' 11 consecutive win.
At Kachel Gym on Saturday (1/31) trailing a balanced UW-La Crosse Eagle squad
29-32 at halftime, the #1 ranked (NCAA) 'Hawks regroup in the 2nd period,
cruising to a 55-50 advantage - and with 8 seconds remaining - take a 1 point
lead at 68-67 as Young converts a layup late.
Young led all scorers with a game-high 21 points, adding 7 assists to his season
totals (107) tops in the WIAC.
Young, a 2013-14 All WIAC 1st team selection, has scored 330 points this season,
ranked #1 in the conference. |
UW-Platteville
Pioneer forward Alyssa Krajco #34 (Sr.-Richland Center/WI) scored 39 points
facing WIAC opponents this week and is the WWS choice for WIAC women's
basketball player of the week.
Krajo paces the WIAC in scoring (323) and rebounds (173) averaging 18.2 points
and 8.7 rebounds per game.
Facing UW-Whitewater on-the-road at Kachel Gym on Wednesday (1/28) Krajco
recorded a double-double, leading all scorers with a game-high 18 points and
pounding the glass for 16 rebounds (10 defensive) in a 59-55 Pioneer win.
Against a determined UW-Superior squad at Mertz Mortorelli Gym on Saturday
(1/31) the Pioneer senior registered her second double-double performance of the
week, scoring a team-high 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in a tough 67-52
loss to the conference leading Yellowjackets (9-2, 15-5).
Last season Krajco was voted First Team All-WIAC, scoring an amazing 442 points,
7th in UW-Platteville program history. |

Pioneer
forward Jake Manning (Sr.-Cedar Rapids/IA) scored 44 points facing WIAC
opponents this week and is the WWS choice for WIAC men's basketball player of
the week.
On Wednesday (1/21) at Bo Ryan Court against visiting UW-Eau Claire the Pioneer
senior forward scored a game high 21 points helping the club stretch a 40-29
halftime lead into a dominating 79-66 UW-P win.
At UW-Stout on Saturday (1/24) Manning silenced the Johnson Field-house
home-crowd with a late bucket as the Pioneers exit Menomonie with a 60-59
road-win.
Jake paced the field with 23 points and 9 rebounds.
Manning this season is ranked 12th in the conference in scoring (223 points)
averaging 13.3 points per game. He has 113 rebounds, 79 defensive (6th
conference) averaging 6.3 per contest. |
UW-Oshkosh student /
athlete Titan forward Marissa Selner (Jr.-Kewaunee/WI) helped the team to a pair
of WIAC wins this week and is the WWS choice for WIAC women's basketball player
of the week. Marissa had 8 points, and 7 rebounds at Mitchell Hall on Wednesday
(1/21) a 57-48 Titan road-win over the UW-La Crosse Eagles.
The Titans, pacing the WIAC with a 15-3 overall record, ranked 20th in the
nation, overcame a 23-17 half time deficit to notch the win.
Facing perennial powerhouse UW-Stevens Point on Saturday (1/24) at the Kolf
Sports Center, the 100th meeting between the rival colleges, Marissa finished in
double figures, scoring 11 points, grabbing 8 rebounds in a hard-fought 53-41
win over the Pointers.
This season Selner is ranked 30th in the conference in scoring (131 points)
averaging 7.3 points per contest, playing in 18 games.
Last year the Titans advanced to the 3rd round of the NCAA D-III Basketball
Championships falling to UW-Whitewater 67-59 in the quarterfinals (3/15). |

Point improves to 7-0 in the conference and 13-3 overall, recording a pair of
WIAC wins this week, defeating UW-La Crosse 57-46 at Bennett Court (1/14) then
traveling to UW-River Falls on Saturday (1/17) overcoming an upset-minded
Falcons team 58-51 at the Karges Center.
UW-SP f/ Jordan Lutz #5 (Sr.-Amherst/WI) was one of four Pointer players
finishing in double figures in the home win over the Eagles, dropping in 10
points and grabbing 3 rebounds.
But Lutz made his presence felt in a big way against the UW-RF Falcons,
connecting on six three-point plays, with game-high 24 points, as the Pointers
overcame a 27-30 halftime deficit to record the win.
This season Lutz is ranked 24th in the conference in scoring (170 points)
converting 58-of-115 field goal attempts (15th WIAC), averaging 9.7 points per
game.
Last season the UW-SP forward scored 100 points playing in 28 contests (309
minutes) as the Pointers advanced to the 2nd round of the NCAA D-III sectionals,
falling to Emory 73-76 in overtime. Jordan had 6 points off-the-bench in the
contest. |
UW-River Falls Falcon
f/ Taylor Karge (Fr.-Mankato/MN) helped the team to a pair of road wins this
week, scoring 42 points, and is the WWS choice for women's basketball player of
the week.
Karge paced the team with 17 points in a 79-58 Falcon victory over
non-conference rival St. Scholastica on Tuesday (1/13) shooting 8-of-13 from the
field. The Falcons cruised to a 37-22 halftime advantage over the Saints and
never looked back. UW-RF Head Coach Cindy Holbrooke notched her 200th career
victory with the win.
On-the-road at Berg Gym facing UW-Stevens Point on Saturday (1/17) the UW-RF
forward led all scorers with a game-high 25 points. The Falcons pulled off a
69-64 upset with Taylor converting 11-of-17 shots, 3-for-5 at the charity
stripe. |

improves to 5-0 in the conference with a pair of wins this week aided by Warhawk
g/ KJ Evans (Sr.-Beloit/WI) the WWS choice for WIAC men's basketball player of
the week.
In a dominating 96-67 UW-Whitewater home-win over rival UW-Stout (0-5, 3-11) on
Saturday (1/10) at Kachel Gym, the WIAC leading glass pound-er (116 rebounds)
pulled down 8 boards and scored 18 points, adding to his season point totals
(229) ranked 3rd in the conference.
The Warhawks cruised to a early 10-0 1st period lead and never looked back,
converting 9-of-18 3-point plays in the first half, enjoying a 48-32 halftime
advantage.
Facing visiting UW-Superior (1-4, 7-7) on Wednesday (1/7) Evans dropped in 18
points - on 8-of-12 shooting - and grabbed 6 rebounds, and a stiff 'Hawk defense
did the rest, limiting the visiting Yellowjackets to one player finishing in
double figures, a convincing 88-57 win.
Last year Evans helped the team win the D-III Basketball National Championship
Title - scoring 30 points against Illinois Wesleyan in the semi-finals, a 71-63
Hawk win - then finishing the season with a team-high 22 point performance in
the Championship game facing Williams, exiting Salem, Virginia with a 75-73 win
and the Title. |
UW-Superior
Yellowjacket g/ Sally Linzmeier (Sr.-Valders/WI) scored 57 points facing WIAC
opponents this week and is the WWS choice for WIAC women's basketball player of
the week.
On Saturday (1/10) the visiting 'Jackets were trailing UW-La Crosse and the
Eagles 18-29 ending 1st half action at Mitchell Hall.
Linzmeier put team on her back after the break, scoring 21 points, grabbing 6
rebounds, taking a 64-59 road-win back to Superior, finishing with a double
double, game-high 29 points, game-high 10 boards.
On Wednesday (1/7) the UW-S senior guard paced all scorers with 28 points in a
dominating 71-59 home-win over UW-Whitewater at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.
A complete player, Linzmeier is 4th in the conference in assists (58) and her
.896 free throw percentage leads the league, converting 60-of-67 attempts from
the charity stripe.
This season Linzmeier is 2nd in the WIAC in scoring (219 points), averaging 16.2
points per contest.
The Yellowjackets improve to 5-1 in the conference and 10-4 overall with the
win. |
