center Jordan Brezinski (#45 Sr.-Muskego/WI) scored 30 points facing WIAC
opponents this week and is the WWS choice for WIAC men's basketball player of
the week.
In the first round of the WIAC Basketball Tournament on Wednesday (2/22)
Brezinski recorded a double-double, 10 points / 10 rebounds facing UW-Superior
at Bennett Court, a 62-52 Pointer win over the visiting Yellowjackets.
The Stevens Point center added a game-high 20 points and 8 rebounds to his
season totals (321 points, 192 rebounds ) facing UW-RF at the Karges Center on
Friday (2/24) but the team came up short falling 76-51 to the Falcons who went
on to defeat Whitewater 64-58 on Sunday (2/26).
Brezinski successfully converted 124-of-234 (.539%) shot attempts this season,
and his 132 defensive rebounds ranked him 3rd in the conference.
Brezinski also paced the conference in offensive rebounds, cleaning the glass
for 60 boards, averaging 2.2 per contest.
He was 5th in the WIAC in blocked shots, stuffing 22 attempts in 27 games. |
UW-River Falls
student/athlete Alise Holst (Sr.-Plainview/MN) scored 32 points facing WIAC
opponents this week and is the WWS choice for WIAC women's basketball player of
the week.
In the first round of the WIAC basketball tournament on Tuesday (2/21) facing
UW-La Crosse, a 64-55 Falcon home-win over the visiting Eagles, Holst tied for a
game-high 18 points, adding to her season total (348) ranked 8th in the
conference.
On Thursday (2/24) facing UW-Stevens Point at Berg Gym, the River Falls forward
had a team-high 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals but was unable to overcome
the defending WIAC Champion Pointers, who go on to a 70-60 win.
This season Holst was 9th in the conference in rebounding (165) racking up 100
defensive boards, averaging 6.1 boards per contest.
In 2011 Holst was All-WIAC Honorable Mention, voted Outstanding Offensive Player
and was a WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll honoree. |

Crosse student/athlete Lucas Collom (Fr.-Galesville/WI) scored 30 points facing
WIAC opponents this week and is the WWS choice for WIAC men's basketball player
of the week.
At Mitchell Hall on Wednesday (2/15) facing UW-River Falls (a 74-66 Eagle win
over the 19th ranked Falcons) the UW-L forward had 10 points, on 4-of-6 shooting
from the field, helping the Eagles to victory, overcoming a 21-28 first period
deficit.
Collom poured in a game-high 20 points on Saturday (2/18) at Mertz Mortorelli
Gym in Superior, UW-L squeaking out a 65-64 road win over the Yellowjackets,
after being knotted up 35-35 at the break.
Collom converted 3-of-4 three-point attempts and had a game-high 7 rebounds (5
defensive) in the contest, playing for 20 minutes.
This season Collom appeared in 23 games, scoring 130 total points (averaging 5.7
points per game) successfully converting 12-of-35 three-point attempts, 12-of-18
free throws, blocking 9 shots and recording 10 steals. |
UW-Oshkosh
Titan student/athlete Katie Kitzke (Jr.-South Milwaukee/WI) scored 37 points
against WIAC opponents this past week and is the WWS choice for WIAC women's
basketball player of the week.
On Wednesday (2/15) at the Kolf Sports Center facing UW-Whitewater the UW-O
guard had a game-high 20 points, on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, but the
Titans were defeated 85-50 by the Warhawks.
Kitzke recorded another game-high on Saturday (2/18) dropping in 17 points
facing UW-Stout in the season finale for both schools, a 65-60 UW-Oshkosh
home-loss.
This season Kitzke paced the Titans in scoring (346 points) making 103-of-243
attempts (42.4%) and 40-of-103 three point attempts (38.8%). She also registered
78 rebounds (58 defensive) playing in all 25 contests. |

Pioneer forward Jake Manning (Fr.-Cedar Rapids) is the WWS choice for WIAC men's
basketball player of the week.
Manning poured in 21 points, and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds in a 70-63
Pioneer road win over UW-LC at Mitchell Hall on Saturday (2/11).
The Pioneer forward converted 9-of-13 shots from the field and was 3-of 4 from
the free throw line, helping the team sweep the season series against the
Eagles.
On Wednesday (2/08) facing UW-Whitewater at Bo Ryan Court Manning recorded 10
points in a disappointing 77-58 Pioneer loss to the Warhawks.
This season Manning has scored 229 points (19th WIAC) averaging 9.5 points per
game.
He is ranked 8th in the conference in rebounding, with 131 boards (84 defensive)
grabbing 5.5 rebounds per contest.
In 24 games played Manning has blocked 16 shots, 7th in the WIAC. |
UW-Superior
student/athlete Connie Urmanski (Jr.-Edgar/WI) is the WWS choice for WIAC
women's basketball player of the week.
Urmanski recorded a game-high 26 points in a tight 64-62 Yellowjacket home-loss
to powerhouse UW-River Falls at Mertz Mortorelli Gym on Wednesday (2/8).
The Superior guard converted 8-of-13 shots from the field and 6-of-9 attempts
from the distance, adding to her season total points (271) ranked 13th in the
conference.
The Yellowjackets and Falcons were tied at 29-29 starting second period action,
but Superior came up short in the final seconds, the team closing to within two
points with 44 ticks remaining, failing to convert a basket that would have
knotted the game.
On Saturday (2/11) Urmanski converted a pair of three point plays and had 1
assist but was limited to 8 points in a 69-50 loss to UW-Whitewater.
Urmanski currently paces the WIAC in 3-point conversions, successfully making
23-of 50 attempts and is second in the conference in minutes played (793)
averaging 34.48. |

Point student/athlete Dan Tillema (Sr.-Randolph/WI) scored 49 points facing WIAC
opponents and is the WWS choice for WIAC men's basketball player of the week
In a 70-54 UWSP win over UW-Platteville, at Bennett Court on Wednesday (2/1),
Tillema added 25 points to his season totals (369) ranked 4th in the conference,
converting 11-of-21 shots from the field, aiding the defending WIAC Champion
Pointers to their 17th season win.
He also had 7 rebounds (5 defensive) 2 assists, 1 blocked shot and 2 steals in
the contest
On Saturday (2/4) Tillema registered a double-double, pouring in 24 points and
pounding the glass for 14 rebounds in a 76-60 Pointer win over visiting UW-La
Crosse, sending the Eagles to their seventh conference loss.
The Pointer forward shot 3-of-6 from 3-point range, successfully converting
9-of-10 free throws, and also recorded 2 assists and 3 steals in the game.
Tillema has 131 rebounds this season (110 defensive - 5th) and his 56 assists
rank him 12th in the WIAC. |
UW-La
Crosse Eagle student/athlete Kassie Robinson (Sr.-Inver Grove Heights/MN) is the
WWS choice for WIAC women's basketball player of the week.
Facing UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (2/1) Robinson scored a game-high 21 points in
a disappointing 61-71 Eagle loss to the Warhawks, padding her conference total
(304 points) ranked #1 in the WIAC.
On Saturday (2/4) Robinson poured in a game-high 36 points, on 10-of-18 shooting
from the field, in a 79-69 Eagles road-loss to perennial WIAC powerhouse UW-SP
at Berg Gym.
The 36 points recorded tied a UW-L school record set by Jill Murray (12/2000).
The UW-L center successfully converted 16-of-20 free throws in the contest, her
116 attempts this season pacing the conference, with 85 points scored from the
charity stripe (.733%).
The 16 free throws made also set a new school record, eclipsing the old mark
(13) set in 2008.
Robinson is ranked 8th in the WIAC in rebounding, averaging 6.6 boards per game,
with 132 total rebounds (90 defensive) this season. |

student/athlete John Flanigan (Sr.-Oshkosh/WI) is the WWS choice for WIAC men's
basketball player of the week.
The Titan forward, ranked 2nd in the WIAC in scoring (345 points), added 17
points to his season totals in a tough 69-74 UW-O overtime loss to
UW-Platteville at Bo Ryan Court (1/25).
Flanigan had a team-high 12 rebounds (11 defensive) in the game, padding his
conference total (113) ranked 3rd in the WIAC.
On Saturday (1/28) Flanigan was limited to 10 points and 3 rebounds in a 52-72
Titan road loss at Mitchell Hall facing UW-La Crosse.
Flanigan leads the conference in offensive rebounds (41) and free throw
conversions (97) making 97-of-108 attempts (.898) and is 6th in the WIAC in
defensive rebounds (72), averaging 4.2 per contest. |
UW-Superior
student/athlete Bri Davis (Sr.-Hermantown/MN) scored 28 points and registered 14
rebounds facing WIAC basketball opponents this week and is the WWS choice for
WIAC women's basketball player of the week.
On Wednesday (1/25) the Yellowjacket forward scored 17 points in a
closely-played 61-56 home-loss at Mertz Morterelli Gym against powerhouse (16-3)
UW-Eau Claire.
Bri converted 7-of-10 shots from the floor and pulled down 7 boards, adding to
her conference totals (65).
On Saturday (1/28) Davis registered 11 points and recorded a team-high 7
rebounds in a 67-85 Yellowjacket loss facing defending WIAC Champion UW-Stevens
Point, playing for 18 minutes.
In 14 contests this season Davis has scored 147 total points, converting
61-of-108 shots (.565%), with 10 assists.
Last year Bri finished the 2010-11 WIAC season with 323 points and 201 rebounds
(126 defensive), playing in 25 games. |

Shane Manor (Sr.-Altoona/WI) is the WWS choice for WIAC men's basketball player
of the week.
On Saturday (1/21) Manor poured in 26 points at Bennett Court in Stevens Point
in a 82-75 Falcon road-win over #11 ranked UW-SP.
Manor, ranked third in the WIAC in scoring (18.3 ppg), converted 6-of 11 shots
from the field and was 14-of-15 from the charity line.
He recorded a team-high 9 rebounds, adding to his season totals (101), ranked
eighth in the conference.
Manor had 3 assists and 1 blocked shot in the contest, playing for thirty-seven
minutes.
On Wednesday (1/18), facing powerhouse UW-Superior at Mertz Mortorelli Gym,
Manor registered a game-high 31 points but the visiting Falcons come up short on
the scoreboard, falling 85-82 to the Yellowjackets in a close played contest.
In 2011 Manor was voted Newcomer of the Year and was an All-WIAC selection. |
UW-Stevens
Point student/athlete Ashley Averkamp (Sr.-New Berlin/WI) is the WWS choice for
WIAC women's basketball player of the week.
Averkamp tied for a game-high 16 points at Berg Gym on Wednesday (1/18) facing
the UW-Platteville Pioneers, an 80-53 UW-SP win.
She registered 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 blocked shot in the game, playing
for 20 minutes.
On Saturday (1/21) against UW-River Falls Ashley had 12 points, adding to her
season totals (164) in a 71-59 Pointer win over the 17th ranked Falcons.
Averkamp, playing post, is currently ranked 4th in the conference in field goal
percentage, converting 67-of-126 attempts (.532) and is 11th in the WIAC in
blocked shots (10) appearing in 16 contests.
Last season the Elementary Education major was an All-WIAC selection, recording
a double-double, 23-point, 10-rebound performance in the WIAC Championship game
against UW-Whitewater, a 73-53 Pointer win. |

student/athlete Chris Davis (Sr.-Madison/WI) scored 47 points
facing WIAC opponents this week and is the WWS choice for WIAC men's basketball
player of the week.
On Wednesday (1/11) Davis scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed a game-high
10 rebounds in a thrilling 75-70 Warhawk win over visiting UW-Platteville.
Davis converted a three-point play with 51 seconds in the game to give
Whitewater a 71-65 lead, then iced a pair of free throws, after the Pioneers
closed to 70-72, sealing the UW-W win.
Facing UW-Superior on Saturday (1/14) Davis had a game-high 24 points, 8
rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, pacing the Warhawks to their sixth WIAC win
this season, a 80-58 win over the Yellowjackets.
Davis, leading the WIAC in scoring (393 points) averaging 24.7 points per game,
also tops the conference in rebounds (8.1 per contest).
He has successfully converted 55-of-64 free throw attempts (887%), ranked second
in the conference. |
UW-Eau
Claire Blugold student/athlete Ellen Plendl (Sr.-Chippewa
Falls/WI) is the WWS choice for WIAC women's basketball player of the week.
The Blugold center had 9 rebounds, 7 blocked shots, and scored 10 points at Kolf
Sports Complex on Wednesday (1/11) facing the UW-Oshkosh Titans, a 52-47 'Golds
road-win.
Ellen also had 4 assists and converted 4-of-5 free throw attempts in the game,
an overall excellent performance against a deceivingly tough 0-6 Titan team.
Against perennial powerhouse 17th ranked UW-River Falls on Saturday (1/14)
Plendl cleaned the glass for 18 rebounds (15 defensive) and recorded 5 blocked
shots and 1 steal in a 63-57 Blugold road-win over the 13-2 Falcons at the
Karges Center.
The 'Golds center is currently ranked 12th in the conference in scoring (196)
averaging 11.5 points per game, and is second in the WIAC in total rebounds
(183) grabbing 10.8 boards per contest.
Plendl also leads the conference in blocked shots (62) averaging 3.65 per match. |

Aalfs converted 6-of-11 shot attempts, including a trio of three-point plays,
with 3 assists and 2 steals in the game
Aalfs, averaging 14.4 points per game, scored 12 points and tied for a team-high
8 rebounds facing UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday (1/4) at the Kolf Sports Center, a

Falls Falcon Maranda Dohrn (Sr.-Lake City /MN) pounded the glass for 21 rebounds
and scored 20 points facing WIAC opponents this week and is the WWS choice for
women's basketball player of the week.
Maranda registered a double-double, 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds (8
defensive) in a disappointing 64-53 UWRF loss at Kachel Gym facing the
UW-Whitewater Warhawks (1/7).
On Wednesday (1/4) Dohrn was limited to 5 points, but the Falcon center recorded
11 rebounds and 1 blocked shot in a 67-63 win over UW-Stevens Point.
Dohrn is leading the conference in rebounding, with 170 total boards (122
defensive) averaging 12.2 rebounds per game and is ranked second in the WIAC in
offensive rebounds, with 48, 3.46 per game in 14 contests played.
She has scored 135 points (25th WIAC), averaging 9.2 points per contest. |
