UW-Whitewater
student /athlete Chris Davis ( JR.-Madison/WI ) recorded two double-double
performances this week facing WIAC opponents, and once again is the WWS choice
for men's basketball WIAC Player of the Week.
On Wednesday ( 2/16 ) facing UW-Oshkosh at the Kachel Gym in Whitewater, Davis
dropped in 35 points and recorded 12 rebounds in a convincing 73-62 Warhawk win
over the Titans.
The Warhawk forward converted 15-of-21 shots from the field, with 3 steals and 3
blocked shots in the contest.
The WWS men's basketball player of the week ( Jan. 10-16 ) racked up 26 points
and pounded the glass for 10 rebounds in a 79-63 win over UW-Superior on
Saturday ( 2/19 ), Davis again with 3 steals and 2 blocked shots in the win over
the Yellowjackets.
Davis is averaging 21.3 point per game, playing in 25 contests this season. |
The WWS
WIAC women's basketball player of the week is UW-Stout Blue Devil
student/athlete Tricia VanVreede ( SR.-Little Chute/WI ).
VanVreede, ranked 9th in the WIAC in scoring, averaging 11.7 points per game,
ends the 2010-11 season with 293 points and 153 rebounds ( 105 defensive ) 11th
in the conference.
The Business Administration Major added 2 steals and 1 blocked shot to her
season totals of 39 and 23, respectively, in a tough 67-64 loss to interstate
rival UW-Eau Claire on Saturday ( 2/19 ) at the Johnson Fieldhouse in Menomonie.
In the 2009-10 basketball season VanVreede received the teams 'most improved
player' award, playing in all 27 contests.

Point Pointer student/athlete Louis Hurd ( SR._Portage/WI ) recorded 37 points
facing WIAC opponents and is the WWS WIAC men's basketball Player of the Week.
At the Zorn Arena on Wednesday ( 2/9 ) facing the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds, Hurd
poured in a game-high 24 points, on 10-of-16 shooting from the field, leading
the Pointers to a 83-70 win over the 'Golds.
Hurd, majoring in Broadfield Social Studies, dropped in 4 three-point plays and
also registered 2 rebounds in the game.
On Saturday ( 2/12 ) at Bennett Court, Hurd scored 13 points and pounded the
glass for 8 defensive rebounds, as the 8th ranked ( d3hoops.com ) Pointers
cruised to a 86-70 win against the #10 ranked River Falls Falcons ( 12-2, 19-4
). Hurd also had 2 blocked shots and 5 steals in the contest.
Last season ( 2009-10 ) Hurd was an All-WIAC honorable mention, playing in
32 matches, and averaging 12.5 points per game. |
UW-Superior
Yellowjacket student/athlete Bri Davis ( JR-Hermantown/MN ) racked up 30 points
against WIAC opponents and is the WWS WIAC women's basketball Player of the
Week.
Facing UW-Stout and the Blue Devils at Mertz Mortorelli Gym on Wednesday ( 2/9 )
the Yellowjacket forward recorded a double-double, leading all scorers with 23
points and 10 rebounds in a 78-66 home loss.
Davis, pacing the team averaging 13.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, has 297
total points and 114 defensive boards ( 181 overall ) this season.
A Health and Wellness major at UW-Superior, Davis had 10 rebounds but was limited to 7 points
in a tough 57-63 road loss to UW-Oshkosh at the Kolf Sports Complex on Saturday
( 2/12 ).

Crosse Eagle student/athlete Tony Mane ( SR.-Milwaukee/WI ) is the WWS choice
for WIAC men's basketball player of the week.
Mane recorded a 35 point performance at Mitchell Hall on Thursday ( 2/3 )
leading UW-L to an 81-65 win over UW-Whitewater, the forward converting 12-of-22
shots from the field and 7-of-10 shots from the distance, adding to his season
total 472 points.
Mane, averaging 24.1 points per contest, was 4-5 from the charity stripe and in
21 contests has converted 72-of-83 free throw attempts for a .867 percentage,
second in the WIAC.
Mane, a scoring machine, broke the Eagles' 34-year old scoring record ( Larry
Halverson, 1973-77 1,822 ) last month ( 1/19 ) in a 73-62 loss to UW-Oshkosh,
Mane registering 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field.
On Saturday ( 2/5 ) facing UW-Superior, at Mertz Mortorelli Gym, Mane scored a
career-high 37 points in a 73-63 Eagle road win over the Yellowjackets. Mane
converted 14-of-21 shots, including 4 three-point plays and was a perfect 5-of-5
from the free throw line in the UW-L victory.
In 2009-10 Mane was All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference ( WIAC )
First Team and D3hoops.com All-West Region Third Team, starting in all 25 games,
averaging 22.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. The Physical
Education major also led the team and tied for first in the WIAC in scoring. |
UW-Oshkosh
Titan student/athlete Shelby Churchill ( SR.-Sheboygan/WI ) is the WWS WIAC
women's basketball player of the week.
Churchill registered a double-double 12 point, 11-rebound performance against
UW-Platteville at the Kolf Sports Complex on Thursday ( 2/3 ), the Titans going
on to a 74-56 home win against the Pioneers.
On Saturday ( 2/5 ) facing UW-Stout at the Johnson Field House in Menomonie,
Churchill, ranked 11th in the WIAC in scoring ( 10.4 ppg ), was held to just 2
points in a disappointing 58-50 road-loss to the Blue Devils. The Titan forward
however, still pounded the glass for 11 boards ( 10 defensive ).
Churchill is 4th in the WIAC in rebounding, averaging 8.4 boards per contest and
has 127 defensive rebounds through 22 games played.

Point student/athlete guard Jerrel Harris ( SO.-Milwaukee/WI ) recorded a
career-high 25 points in a lopsided 85-59 Stevens Point road-win over the
UW-Whitewater Warhawks at the Kachel Gym in the Williams Center on Wednesday (
1/26 ) and has been selected as the WWS WIAC men's basketball player of the
week.
Harris was 8-of-12 shooting from the field overall, including 4-three pointers.
UW-Stevens Point cruised to a 40-20 halftime advantage. Harris, converted 5-of-6
shots from the charity stripe, and also recorded 3 assists and 3 steals in the
match.
In 2009-10 Harris played in all 33 games, making three starts, averaging 19.6
minutes per contest and 7.7 points per game.
The Pre-Physical Therapy major had a previous career-high 20 points in a win
over UW-Oshkosh. |
UW-Stevens
Point student/athlete Britta Petersen ( SR.-Luck/WI ) is the WWS WIAC women's
basketball Player of the Week.
Petersen on Wednesday ( 1-26 ) recorded a double-double, 17 point, 12 rebound
performance in a 66-47 win over UW-Whitewater. Petersen shot 8-of-13 from
the field, adding 3 assists in the game.
On Saturday ( 1-29 ) Petersen helped Pointer's women's basketball head coach
Shirley Egner notch her 400th career win, with a 95-49 victory over UW-Superior
in Berg Gymnasium. Britta finished the game with 18 points and 3 steals.
In 2009-10 the WIAC First Team selection and WIAC Player of the Year Finalist
started all 31 games, leading the team in scoring, averaging 15.8 points per
game.

Titan student/athlete John Flanigan ( JR.-Oshkosh/WI ) scored 46 points facing
WIAC opponents and has been selected as the WWS WIAC men's basketball Player of
the Week.
On Saturday ( 1/22 ) facing the WIAC leading 15-3 UW-Stevens Pointers, at the
Kolf Sports Complex in Oshkosh, Flanigan converted 9-of-15 shots from the field,
scoring 20 points, in a close 74-70 loss to the NCAA D-III defending National
Champion Pointers.
The Pointers gave up their third highest point total of the season as Flanigan
recorded 5 rebounds ( 4 defensive ) three assists and 2 steals in the game. The
Titans recovered from a 32-24 halftime deficit to close the gap at 70-67 with 41
ticks left on the clock.
On Wednesday ( 1/19 ) at Mitchell Hall, facing the UW-La Crosse Eagles Flanigan
poured in 26 points, converting 8-of-12 shots from the charity stripe and
pounding the glass for 9 boards, leading the Titans to a 34-30 halftime
advantage, en route to a 73-62 road win. |
UW-La Crosse
Eagle student/athlete center Danielle Frank ( SR.-Caledonia/MN ) has been
selected as the WWS WIAC women's basketball Player of the Week.
The 2009-10 All-WIAC honorable mention ( recording 14 double-double games ) had
another double-double, 21 point, 19 rebound performance in a 73-68 road-win over
the UW-Oshkosh Titans, at the Kolf Center in Oshkosh on Wednesday ( 1/19 ).
Frank's, a Biology major, also had 6 blocked shots, 2 assists and 1 steal in the
match-up.
At Mitchell Hall on Saturday ( 1/22 ) the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds held the
Eagle's center to just 5 points in a tough 43-61 home loss, but Frank's still
registered 14 rebounds ( 9 defensive ), 6 blocked shots, ( with 1 assist ) and
scored 2 points off turnovers.
Frank's earned two letters at the College of Saint Benedict ( MN ) before
transferring to UW-L. |

student/athlete Chris Davis ( Jr.-Madison/WI ) scored 59 points on the road
against WIAC opponents this week and has been selected as the WWS WIAC men's
basketball player of the week.
On Wednesday ( 1/12 ), at the UW-Oshkosh Kolf Sports Center facing the Titans,
Davis recorded a double-double, 13-rebound, 30-point performance in a thrilling
89-87 double-overtime 'Hawk victory.
On Saturday ( 1/15 ) the 'Hawk forward poured in 29 points and had 7 rebounds
facing the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds at the Zorn Arena in Eau Claire, a 72-64
Warhawk blowout road win.
Davis, who leads the WIAC with 122 defensive rebounds, this week converted
22-of-39 shots from the field, dropped in six three-point plays and made 9-of-10
shots from the free throw line.
In his spare time the 2010 Honorable mention All-American likes board games,
tacos and his favorite sports personality is Michael Jordan. |
UW-Eau Claire
Blugold student/athlete Hannah Mesick ( SR.-Chatfield/MN ) registered 54 points
facing WIAC opponents this week, including 17 points in a close 71-70 loss at
the Zorn Arena to the UW-Whitewater Warhawks on Saturday ( 1/15 ) and for her
efforts has been selected as the WWS WIAC women's basketball player of the week.
Mesick recorded a double-double, 17 points, 13 rebounds in a 70-50 blowout over
UW-Stout on Jan. 10 at the Zorn Arena in Eau Claire, then on Wednesday ( 1/12 )
the Blugold center added another double-double on the road at UW-Superior in a
79-56 blowout win facing the Yellowjackets.
Mesick, last season ( 2009-10 ) was the Blugolds leading scorer, averaging 17.8
ppg., finishing the year second in the WIAC in scoring and selected to the
College Sports Information Directors of American/ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District 5 College Division second team. |

student/athlete forward Jake Smith ( SR.-Rhinelander/WI ) registered 48 points
and 16 rebounds facing WIAC opponents this past week and has been selected as
the WWS WIAC men's basketball 'player of the week.'
On Wed. ( 1/5 ) at UW-La Crosse against the Eagles, Smith scored 24 points and
had 6 rebounds in a close 79-81 Yellowjacket road loss. The UW-Superior team
captain recorded three steals and sank a trio of 3-point plays in the game.
At Mortorelli Gym on Saturday ( 1/8 ) facing UW-Oshkosh Smith recorded a
double-double, 24 points and 10 rebounds ( 2 offensive, 8 defensive ) in a 71-58
Yellowjacket victory over the Titans. Smith dropped in 10-of-17 shots from the
field and converted 4-for-4 attempts from the charity stripe in the win.
Jakes list of basketball accomplishments include 1st Team All-WIAC ( 2007-08,

Falls Falcon student/athlete Tiffany Gregorich ( Jr.-Altoona/WI ) scored 51
points facing WIAC basketball opponents this week and has been selected as the
WWS WIAC women's basketball 'player of the week.'
In a 61-47 win over the UW-Stout Blue Devils at the Karges Center in River Falls
on Wednesday ( 1/5 ) Gregorich scored 20 points, on 7-of-14 shooting from the
field. Gregorich also converted 5-of-6 free throw attempts and registered 8
rebounds and 3 steals in the game.
On Saturday ( 1/8 ) at Kachel Gym facing the UW-Whitewater Warhawks, despite a
career-high 31 point effort from Tiffany, the Falcons were dealt a tough 72-63
defeat, snapping a five-game UW-RF win streak. Gregorich had 4-three point plays
and 2 steals in the matchup.
Tiffany's list of basketball accomplishments include: 2010 All-WIAC and 2010
WIAC All-Defensive Team, Outstanding Offensive Player, Best Free Throw
Percentage, WIAC Player of the Week, Nov. 30-Dec. 6, 2010 WIAC Scholastic Honor
