The
UW-River Falls Falcons were trailing 42-38 with less than two minutes to go in
the contest, facing the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds at Carson Park on Saturday (
11/13 ), until Falcon QB Ryan Luessenheide drove the team 70-yards on 17-plays,
capping the march with a game-winning TD throw, his 5th of the day. UW-RF won
the game by a final score of 45-42.
Luessenheide, throwing for a school record 375 yards and five touchdowns, helped
Falcons retiring Head Coach John O'Grady record his 105th career victory and
avoid his first winless season in 22 years.
Luessenheide ( SR.-New Hope/MN ) finishes the season completing 74-of-124 passes
for 835-yards and 8 TDs. |
On
Saturday ( 11/13 ), the UW-Platteville Pioneers took it on the chin at Community
Stadium in Goerke Field, playing the host UW-Stevens Point Pointers. Point took
the opening kickoff 88 yards to the house, en route to a 45-24 win.
Top defenseman for the Pointers, LB Brandon Stremkowski ( SR.-Stevens Point/SPASH
), created some big noise playing in his last college game. Stremkowski recorded
14 tackles ( 3 assisted ) on the day.
The Math Education major did not play in 2009 ( injured ) but in '08 Stremkowski
was selected First Team All-WIAC, playing in nine games, recording 35 tackles
and two sacks on the season.

The
UW-La Crosse Eagles ( 3-6, 3-3 ) ended a 3-game losing streak to UW-Eau Claire
and the Blugolds ( 4-5, 2-4 ) on Saturday ( 11/6 ) with a convincing 49-14 win
at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.
Eagle QB Nick Anker completed 32-of-47 attempts for 311 yards and a career high
5 touchdowns. Anker, is once again the WWS WIAC offensive player of the week.
Anker connected with WR Kyle Steffen on a 22-yd 1st quarter TD pass, giving the
Eagle's a 7-0 advantage, then recorded TD strikes of 8-yds, 8-yds and 18-yds.
The game result was all but determined at halftime with UW-L up 35-0.
The Eagle QB was the Week-4 ( Sept. 20-26 ) WWS honor recipient, Anker
completing 25-of-42 passes for 338 yards and 1 TD against the University of
Missouri Science and Technology Miners, in a 31-24 loss. |
The WWS WIAC
defensive player of the week, UW-Stout Blue Devil LB Trevor Fiege ( JR.-Menomonie/WI
) racked up 8 tackles ( 1 assist ) at Ralph E. Davis Stadium in Platteville, Wi.,
on Saturday ( 11/6 ) facing UW-Platteville. The Blue Devil's upended the
Pioneers 28-23 on a great overall defensive team-effort.
With the score 28-21, in favor of the Blue Devil's, Fiege forced a Pioneer RB
Sean Martinez ( SO.-Oak Forest/IL ) 4th quarter fumble, which was recovered by
Stout, snuffing out a game-tying Pioneer drive.
Fiege, a Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management major, has 66 total tackles
this season, 2 forced fumbles and 1 sack, playing in all 9 games. |

Claire TB Joel Sweeney ( Fr.-Tomah/WI ) rumbled for 233 yards on 42 carries in a
20-14 Blugold home-win against UW-Oshkosh ( 10/30 ). And for his efforts, has
once again earned the WWS WIAC Player of the Week honors.
Sweeney, who won the Week-5 award, ( with 229 total yards against UW-Stevens
Point in a 26-20 OT win ), this week against the Titans recorded two rushing TDs,
caught 1 pass for 20 yards and ended the day with 255 all-purpose yards. Sweeney
led the team to a 13-0 Blugold halftime lead.
Sweeney had a break-out season this year, against St. John's (MN), in Week-2,
the freshman rushed 25 times for 106 yards and 2 TDs in a 23-20 OT win, and on
September 4 he recorded 184 yards and 3 TDs in a 35-31 Blugold win over Bethel
University. |
The UW-Stevens
Point Pointers faced #1 ranked ( d3football.com ) UW-Whitewater and the Warhawks
on Saturday ( 10/30 ) at Perkins Stadium in Whitewater and were upended 27-14.
On the defensive side of the ball Pointer LB Joe Mleziva ( Sr.Casco/WI )
recorded 11.5 total tackes, 9-solo in the loss, and for his efforts picks up the
WWS WIAC defensive player of the week honors.
Mleziva, in 2009 was Second Team All-WIAC defense, second on the team with 89
tackles. The senior recorded four interceptions and two forced fumbles, playing
in all 10 games.
Mleziva was selected to the 2010 Preseason Inside Wisconsin Sports D3 All-State

The
WWS WIAC player of the week UW-Whitewater RB Antwan Anderson ( Sr.-Madison/WI )
rushed 38 times, racking up an incredible 240 net yards and 3 TD's, in a Warhawk
63-14 drubbing over the UW-River Falls Falcons at Ramer Field in River Falls, Wi.,
Saturday afternoon ( 10/23 ,) part of a 417-yard effort on the ground.
Anderson, the 3rd back on the teams' depth chart, made the most of his rushing
opportunities, leading UW-Whitewater to their twenty-second consecutive win, the
longest win-streak in the NCAA, all divisions included.
The business major, who in his spare time likes track and dancing, picked UW-W
because of it's accredited business degree program and because the campus has a
great football program. |
UW-River
Falls Falcon defensive back Matt Ainsworth ( Jr.-Maple Grove/MN ) recorded 12
tackles, ( 6-assisted ) against the #1 ranked ( d3football.com) team in the land
on Saturday ( 10/23 ), facing the UW-Whitewater Warhawks, at Ramer Field in
River Falls Wi., the Falcons falling 63-14.
Despite the lop-sided final score it wasn't due to a lack of effort on the
Falcon's defensive front, the Warhawks having lost only 5 games in as many
years.
Ainsworth shared top defensive stats with fellow defensive tackle Alex Adams (
Fr.-Brooklyn Park/MN ) who also had 12 tackles ( 6-assisted ). In 2009 the DB
recorded 68 total tackles, playing in all 10 games. |

The
WWS WIAC football player of the week, UW-Steven's Point QB Jake Swank (
Sr.-Oregon/WI ), completed 26-of-39 passes for 310 yards and 3-TD's on Saturday
( 10/16 ), as the visiting UW-SP Pointers played homecoming spoiler, downing a
tough UW-Stout team 27-21, at Don and Nona Williams Stadium in Menomonie.
Swank completed a 2nd quarter 4-yd. TD pass, giving the Pointers a 10-7 lead.
Then after trailing 21-19 in the 4th quarter, he capped off a 5-play, 73-yard
drive with a 30-yd. TD pass. Swank ran in the two-point conversion, making it a
27-21 game.
Against visiting UW-Oshkosh and the Titans at Community Stadium in Week-6 the QB
threw for 228 yards and 4-TD's in a 41-17 home-win.
Majoring in Business Administration and Managerial Accounting, Swank, a Purdue
University transfer, served as student assistant coach on the Pointer Mens
Basketball National Championship team ( 2010 ). |
UW-Platteville
Pioneer LB Nick Snyder ( So.-Mt. Morris/IL ) has been selected as the WWS WIAC
defensive player of the week. Snyder registered 8 unassisted tackles and 3 sacks
in a 21-6 win against the UW-La Crosse Eagles on Saturday at Veterans Memorial
Stadium in La Crosse.
Snyder, with the great defensive effort, helped erase some ancient Pioneer
ghosts, UW-Platteville not beating the Eagles at Veterans Stadium since 1980.
The team held UW-L to just 50 rushing yards.
Last season ('09 ) as a freshman, the Physical Education major saw action in all
10 games, recording 2 solo-stops facing UW-Whitewater. |

WR/RB Lee Vlasak ( So.-Blanchardville/WI ) rushed 33 times for 114 yards and
scored 5 TD's in a 35-14 thumping of the 17th ranked Eau Claire Blugolds at
Pioneer Stadium in Platteville, WI., on Saturday ( 10/9 ). Lee has earned the
WWS WIAC 'Player of the Week' honor for his efforts.
Vlasak, who nabbed 4 catches for 91 additional yards in the contest, set a new
UW-Platteville record with the 5 rushing TD's, three of them recorded in the
second quarter, part of 21 unanswered 2nd period Pioneer points.
He is the sixth player in WIAC history with 5 rushing touchdowns in one game.
Vlasak, a physical education major, had one carry last season, playing in 9
games, starting 4 at wide receiver and was the teams' top punt and kickoff
returner. |
UW-Stout
Blue Devil DB Ryan Pearcy ( Jr.-Plover/WI ) recorded 6 first half tackles, 14
total, on Saturday ( 10/9 ) at Perkins Stadium, facing the #1 ranked
UW-Whitewater Warhawks and has earned the WWS WIAC defensive 'player of the
week' honor.
Stout trailed the National Champion Warhawks by just 3 points at the half, 10-7. Pearcy
helped hold the powerhouse Warhawk running backs Levell Coppage and
Booker Stanley to just 37 first half rushing yards.
Coppage and Stanley combine for over 179 yards of rushing offense, most of the
yardage picked up in the fourth quarter, en route to a 30-7 win over Stout.
Pearcy, a computer science major, in 2009 led the team in tackles with 70,
starting and playing in all 10 games. |

Claire Blugold tailback Joel Sweeney ( Fr.-Tomah/WI ) has garnered the WWS WIAC
'player of the week' honors as the team scored a dramatic 5th period 26-20 win
over UW-Stevens Point and the Pointers Saturday ( 10/2) at Carson Park in Eau
Claire, WI.
Sweeney rushed 28 times for 109 yards and 1 TD and recorded 5 catches for 120
yards and another score in the win over the Pointers, including the 16-yd.
game-wining TD catch from Blugold QB Austin Neu ( So.-Iron Ridge/WI ), capping a
4-play, 25-yd. OT-period drive.
Sweeney, on September 4, 2010, rumbled for 184 yards and 3 TD's, in a 35-31
Blugold win over Bethel University. He also caught 2 balls for 34 yards. |
On
Thursday night ( 9/30 ), at Ralph Davis Stadium in Platteville, WI,
UW-Platteville-Pioneer defensive back Courtney Alexander ( Sr.-Robbins/IL )
registered 12 total tackles, 10 solo, in a 49-17 home loss to UW-Whitewater, and
for his efforts has earned the WWS WIAC defensive 'player of the week' honors.
Alexander, a Building Construction Management major, played in 10 games last
season ( '09 ), registering 6 tackles in a game against UW-Whitewater. |

Allgood-Bailey Stadium Saturday afternoon ( 9/25 ) facing CAA Division II
Independent Missouri University of Science & Technology, the University of
Wisconsin-La Crosse Eagle's football team, with a 31-24 non-conference
road-loss, fall to 0-3 on the season.
Despite the loss, WWS gives the gritty UW-La Crosse Eagle QB Nick Anker (
Sr.-Wausau/WI ) the WWS WIAC 'player of the week' honor.
Anker connected on a 3rd period 34-yd. TD pass to WR Kyle Steffen (
Sr.-Burlington/ WI ), closing a 11-point deficit to 17-21, then took the lead,
24-21, on a 6-play, 65-yard drive, culminating with a Eagle TB Brock Larson (
Jr.-De Pere/WI ) 1-yd. TD run.
Anker completed 25-of-42 passes for 338 yards and 1 TD against the Miners, but
after taking a 24-21 4th quarter lead, UW-L comes up short in a 31-24
heart-breaker.
Anker, a Physical Education major with an Adapted Physical Education minor, in
2009, completed 197-of-347 passes ( 56.8% ) for 2,083 yards, finishing with 10
touchdowns. |

Lincoln paced all players with 10 tackles ( 5 assisted ) in a tough 43-15
home-loss at Ramer Field to the UW-Oshkosh Titans on Saturday. |

The
UW-Stout Blue Devils football team dismantled visiting Eureka College ( Ill. )
63-0 on Saturday, Sept, 18., at Don and Nona Williams Stadium in Menomonie, the
team racking up 408 rushing yards on 61 attempts with 9-TD's.
Two of those scores were provided by the WWS WIAC 'Player of the Week,' Blue
Devil RB Craig Warminski ( Jr.-Stanley/WI ).
Warminski had an 8-yd. TD run, capping a 4-play, 59-yd. drive, then, with 7:25
remaining in the 1st period, scored again, on an 80-yd. punt returned for a TD.
Craig had 33 rushing yards on the day, his rushing totals limited due to the
lopsided score. Warminski was pulled in the first quarter with the Eureka
College Red Devils behind 35-0.
The 2009 first-team All-WIAC selection recorded 1057 yards rushing last season,
including a 167-yard effort in a 36-15 win against UW-Eau Claire (Oct. 24, 2009) and
currently ranks sixth all-time at Stout with 1949 yards. |
The entire
UW-Stout Blue Devil's defensive unit, in recognition of their performance in a
63-0 home-win against Eureka College and the Red Devils on Saturday, Sept. 18,
at Don and Nona Williams Stadium in Menomonie, is the WWS defensive Player of
the Week for Sept. 13-19.
The Blue Devils defense limited the Red Devils to 52 total offensive yards, on
47 plays, including -33 yards rushing on 23 attempts and holding the Eureka
passing attack to 10 completions on 24 attempts for 85 net yards and zero
points.

Warhawk running back Booker Stanley ( Sr.-Whitefish Bay/WI ) is the WWS WIAC
'Player of the Week 'for Sept. 6-12.
The former Wisconsin Badger ( '03-06 ) and State Player of the Year rumbled for
159 yards on 12 attempts, scoring 3-TD's in a 70-7 shellacking of the Dakota
State College Trojans, at Perkins Stadium in Whitewater on Saturday ( 9/11 ).
Stanley, the #3 back, had TD runs of 1-yd., 9-yds. and a third quarter 84-yd. TD
gallop, giving the Hawks a 63-0 lead. The 84-yd. TD was the longest run play
from scrimmage for UW-W since Sept. 23, 2006 ( UW-Oshkosh ).
In a game against Ohio State in 2003, Stanley played a large part in one of the
Badgers' greatest upsets., the defeat of then-No. 3 ranked Ohio State, Stanley
rushing 31 times for 125 yards and a touchdown. |
The WWS WIAC
defensive 'Player of the Week' honors for Sept 6-12 go to UW-La Crosse's FS
Phillip Minja ( Sr.-Stockholm/Sweden ) who recorded a game-high 14 tackles,
including 11 solo, in a 24-19 loss to #6 ranked University of Mary Hardin-Baylor
( Texas ) on Saturday at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports
Complex in La Crosse. Minja also had 1 tackle for loss of yardage.
Minja, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, played with European champion Germany, in
the EFAF ( European Federation of American Football ) All-Star tournament ( 2010
) and was a first-team participant, playing safety. |

UW-Whitewater, the defending NCAA Division III national champion opened their
season on Saturday, Sept. 4 with a 35-0 win over Adrian College at Perkins
Stadium in Whitewater.
Warhawk QB Matt Blanchard ( Jr.-Lake Zurich/IL ) completed 19 of 25 passes for
289 yards and 2 touchdowns and has been chosen the WWS
Reisinger Body and Paint offensive 'Player of the Week.'
Blanchard also had 5 rushes for 46 yards, including a 3rd quarter 14-yard
scamper to the UW-Whitewater 49-yard line, leading to another score, capping a
7-play 85-yard drive, putting the game out of reach at 25-0.
When he's not on the gridiron or studying Matt likes to relax, watch movies and
open up a new book. |
For his efforts
in a 14-13 OT loss to Black Hills State University on Friday, Sept. 4, UW-Stout
Blue Devil defensive back Aaron Kobes ( Jr.-Two Rivers/Mishicot ), is the WWS
choice for WIAC defensive 'player of the week.'
Kobes had 12 tackles, 3 assists, with 2 QB sacks in the overtime road loss at
Black Hills State. Facing the Yellowjackets, UW-Stout lost on a failed
extra-point conversion in OT.
In his spare time the construction management major enjoys fishing, shopping,
listening to music and playing NCAA Football or Madden video games. |
