Game Result (Level 4): St. Croix Central 42, Freedom 21 |
St. Croix Central doesn't have backs with eye
popping numbers like some teams do at this point in the season. But they do have
some impressive team stats in rushing that explain their playoff dominance this
year. FB Ryan Larson and QB Collin Nelson will be the first to tell you that
their personal success lies in the grunt work done by an outstanding offensive
line. Leading the charge on the line are two bulldozers by the name of Hunter
Schmidt and Chris Matteson. The Panthers 2016 run to the D4 state title put a
target on the back of SCC coming into the season. Despite graduating some great
talent, the returning core of lineman led by Schmidt and Matteson made it their
mission to get back to Camp Randall. On defense, the two tackles anchor the
front when teams try to spread the field and have stonewalled the run first
offenses like that of Northwestern and Bloomer. Thursday in Madison, the
Panthers will rely on the same formula that has been winning games all season.
Run, run, run and stop the run on the other side of the ball. Another gold ball
could well decorate the school trophy case next week. |
